In the year 1994-95, the founder of Wardhinee late Shri. Kishabhau Patwardhan suggested the volunteers to contact some village schools on the periphery of Pune City and request these schools to allow us to conduct demonstration of experiments in Science for their students.
The response from the students was overwhelming. Through such visits we observed that many of the schools don't have laboratory in their school. The vehicle of the institute goes to various villages in Mulshi & Haveli Tehesil (Pune Dist.). Students from Std. 5th to 7th are more benefited through this project. Keeping their Science syllabus as base, experiments are shown to them and the students are also given opportunity to these experiments themselves. A separate session for 10th Std. students is also arranged in various village schools.
The separate cell for women is run since 1989. The mothers, who normally come to the school door to pick up their kid, started sharing their sufferings at home and expected that 'Swa'-Roopwardhinee should do something for them. This made the team of Wardhinee volunteers to think and start separate activities for needy women. Thus the institute started the vocational training courses such as Home Nursing, Tailoring, and Montessori Teacher's training, Fashion designing for needy women.
In the year 1988, Wardhinee constructed its own building in Mangalwar Peth area. While the construction of the building was in progress, a survey of a slum area in front of the building, viz 'Sadanandnagar Zopadpatti' was conducted. The data collected through the survey threw light on the fact that near about 58% of the kids in the slum, between the age group 3 to 5 did not go to any Montessori School. This motivated us to start a Montessori School which was thereafter named as 'Pakoli'.
Through informal educational activities, Wardhinee is trying to develop the leadership qualities in the students. Wardhinee expects that the students should lead the society in every walk of life. Govt. Machinery plays an important role in society. The officers in the machinery are the leaders there. When they are motivated properly, they use their authority for the welfare of the society at large. Keeping this view in mind, the institute started a coaching centre for Competitive Examinations.
Due to Montessori school activity, the institute came in regular contact with the 'mothers' who fight daily to meet the both ends. Due to the financial crisis, arising out of problems like insufficient and irregular monthly income, drug addicted husband etc. women from such background fights hard for the survival of the family. n order to support the sincere efforts and fighting spirit of the women, Wardhinee started organizing such women though 'Self Help Groups'. The Self Help Group motivates the members to save a minimum amount of Rs.20/- p.m. Such savings every month by every member of the group, helps them to fulfill their own urgent needs.
The space available in the home is so limited that students from such background find it difficult to study. They are unable to concentrate. More than this the surrounding atmosphere in such areas is not encouraging. Taking into consideration; the institute started an activity 'Self Study Centre'. The basic need of these students is sufficient light, silence and encouraging atmosphere. The centre is open between 6.00 am to 12.00 midnight, throughout the year.
